Vogue Education Presents: Angelo Mitakos
The Condé Nast College was delighted to welcome Angelo Mitakos, Fashion Editor of GQ, to speak at our weekly industry speaker program, Vogue Education Presents.
About Angelo Mitakos
Angelo Mitakos joined British GQ in January 2016 as Fashion Assistant, and in November 2020 he was appointed Fashion Editor. He has styled multiple global fashion stories and covers for GQ, and he has worked with Erling Harland, Rita Ora, Jack Harlow, and Sam Smith amongst many others. His passion for life is reflected in his diverse body of work and Angelo’s talk was a masterclass for all aspiring stylists. His mantra for life is simple: work hard, love life and have fun!
Angelo Mitakos Industry Talk
Angelo Mitakos is an inspiring and charismatic speaker as he is so passionate about his career as a stylist. His first fashion memory was when, as four-year-old, he noticed his mother was wearing a coat that didn’t flatter her.
From then he just wanted to be involved in fashion. Having to play rugby twice a week at his boy’s school just strengthened his resolve, and he would create fashion stories at home using friends as models and styling his own clothes.

Take a 5 day course in Fashion Styling with Condé Nast College
This led to styling roles at small independent magazines where he could hone his craft and start to build his network. He encouraged our students to style their own shoots to learn from their mistakes, discover their own style and learn the art of storytelling.
He stressed the importance of hard work and doing even the most menial tasks to the very best of your ability. Angelo got his first big break having spent three days tidying a chaotic fashion cupboard. The call from the GQ team to ask him to assist was a result of that good impression. He has never looked back, but remains grounded and is grateful for the opportunities he has had.

His relentlessly positive attitude, refusal to take himself too seriously, and his work ethic has ensured that he has only worked with the best.
He inspired us with his colourful stories of photo shoots with celebrities and was honest about how he has to find creative solutions to problems that happen on set. His authentic career advice was invaluable, and his passion for the industry and what he does meant that he had a long line of students who wanted to ask him questions at the end of his presentation.
