He might have started his career as the work-experience boy at Vogue but Daniel Marks is now arguably one of the most influential fashion communications gurus on the planet. Talking to a combined cohort of Vogue Certificate and Vogue Diploma students, Marks explained that – “If you’ll be the one laying the table on Christmas day, doing all the cooking, making sure that people’s glasses are always full and doing all the washing up then you’re the sort of person who would be successful in the communications business. It is, after all, intrinsically a service industry and we are there to be professional carers for our clients.” With a client roster that spans brands as diverse as Versace and Net-a-Porter to Erdem and Christopher Kane, Marks spoke passionately about the dynamism and economic importance of the British, and indeed global, fashion industry. “It’s also a whole lot of fun to work in,” he added. “In fact, if you are working in fashion and not having fun then you are doing something seriously wrong.”
