Music Matters at Selfridges

Selfridges will be is exploring the intrinsic link between style and music in their immersive new event – Music Matters – which opened on 26 June. Stores in London, Birmingham and Manchester are teaming up with an array of musicians and designers, in store and online, with the dual aim of restoring the joys of live music and reminding visitors once more of the megastore’s pre-eminence in experiental shopping.

Live music is considered an incredibly powerful part of our individual and communal identity, yet with 40% of London’s music venues closing, it is under threat. In response, Selfridges are collaborating with a diverse range of musicians to acknowledge our vibrant musical scenes. Skepta and A$AP Rocky are set to open and close the event with a live performance, whilst Peckham’s Bold Tendencies and the Multi-Story Orchestra will be joining forces for a musical extravaganza.

Other highlights include a Steinway piano in the Accessories Hall and Peckham’s record store RYE WAX who will be setting up camp at Oxford Street’s menswear store. With classical, acoustic and rap music in the pipeline, there is a sound and scene for everyone.

In the fashion department, there will be exclusive capsule collections from Harley Viera Newton, Rockins, Belstaff and A.F. Vandervorst. With over 400 exclusive products created for the event, Music Matters will be showcasing the work of some of the industry’s most cutting-edge designers– all to the backdrop of London’s best busking talent or the melodic sounds of the Multi-Story Orchestra.

Music Matters is the most exciting seasonal event to immerse yourself in this summer. It’s a mini music festival you won’t need to leave the city for.
