Julien Macdonald visits the Condé Nast College

The story of Julien Macdonald’s inspiring career is nothing short of a real life fashion fairy tale. A tale that was told with charm, effervescence and in the dulcet Welsh tones of the fashion designer himself, who seemed very much at home at the Condé Nast College on Thursday, 3rd July.

The hour began as it would continue, with laughter, as Macdonald admitted to at first being “a bit afraid of fashion”, a claim almost unbelievable looking back over all that he has achieved. Whether moving from Cardiff to the RCA, a big break with Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, to the ultimate education at Givenchy and now dressing the likes of Beyoncé, Macdonald demonstrated to our students that success in all its forms comes from seized opportunities, determination, and ultimately the belief in one’s own talent. This has been key for Macdonald- knowing what sets you apart is paramount to cutting it in today’s world.

He parted to raucous applause from students and staff, who all felt the “Julien Macdonald effect” and left feeling empowered by his secret to success- “work hard and never give up”!
