Condé Nast College’s Vogue Fashion Certificates got more than they bargained for when they recently visited Vogue House, only to bump into the main man himself, Edward Enninful and supermodel, Naomi Campbell.
Although people say it’s never as glamorous as in the movies, our trip to Vogue House only confirmed our preconceived ideas about the job. From the moment you are greeted at reception, you feel like you’re living in a movie. Everybody is dressed immaculately, there are the most gorgeous bouquets of flowers on almost every desk, employees are chatting away as they get their jobs done, and the numerous rails of clothes.. those speak for themselves.
Luckily for us, the day we visited Vogue, Edward Enninful, happened to be in the office. Due to his mountain of commitments, the Editor in Chief of Vogue being in the office is a rarity, and one that we were extremely grateful for. To describe him as kind would be an understatement. Edward is warm and welcoming and completely embraced the group of 7 young students taking up space in his office. He invited us to take photos with him and was very enthusiastic about having us there.
If some of us weren’t star struck by Edward, we were definitely blown away by seeing another fashion icon in the building. During our discussion with the managing director of Vogue, Mark Russell, we spotted Naomi Campbell having a meeting in the adjacent room. Yes, we’ve seen her photos, but it’s hard to believe that anybody is that tall and striking in real life. Once again, we were bowled over by the warmth and kindness shown to us by this legendary supermodel. She shook each of us by the hand and asked us our names, before getting involved in the photo opportunity we had with Edward. It’s safe to say, after that, we were all on a bit of a high.
The rest of the day was spent walking around the office, meeting the rest of the British Vogue team, and learning about the various job roles in more detail. Another ‘wow’ moment was when Sarah Harris walked in, after we were told she wouldn’t be there. We were extremely lucky to meet such incredible fashion influencers. For us, who are interested in fashion and fashion journalism, it was an absolute dream come true to meet all the individuals that produce such an iconic magazine.
