Every year when autumn rolls around the first three things I ask myself are; where can I find a pumpkin spice latté? When do the clocks change? And most importantly, what shall I transform myself into for Halloween?
Most of us have awesome childhood memories of trick or treating. Although those days are long gone, I still look forward to celebrating, dressing up and carefully selecting my costume. With so many options to choose from and the stakes being raised every Halloween, I thought I’d get in the mood with some great and contemporary Halloween costume ideas that you may come face to face with this October 31st!
In recent years, celebrities have taken their Halloween costumes to epic levels. Remember a couple of years ago when Heidi Klum dressed up as Jessica Rabbit? The incredible transformation was no small task! In fact, it took over 9 hours and a full team of make-up artists and stylists to bring her character to life!
Every year we turn to movies, celebrities and even pop culture for Halloween inspiration. Last years’ top picks were Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad, Eleven from Stranger Things and Beyoncé with her famous yellow dress from Lemonade.
If I was to predict this year’s most popular options, I’d say that Game of Thrones will be featuring heavily in the form of Cersei, Daenarys, Sansa or Arya for the ladies and Gregor, Khal Drogo, King Joffrey and of course Jon Snow for the guys.
Of course, Disney characters are always easily spotted at any Halloween party. This year, Belle from Beauty and the Beast is sure to be a popular choice which will be juxtaposed with another siren from the big screen – Wonder Woman. Think shield and crown, but if you want to take it up a notch get yourself a backless blue gown with a dagger strategically placed down the back.
Clowns always have a sinnister side and with cult horror film, IT returning to the big screen we’re sure to see a few more around this Halloween. Who knows, maybe Offred from The Handmaid’s Tail may even make an appearance.
For those taking their inspiration from pop culture and reality stars we’re sure to see a pregnant Kylie Jenner, or even Beyoncé with her twins. Taylor Swift may just show up at your Halloween Ball with her diamonds from her ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ music video.
Clever double acts never cease to get a good laugh at Halloween, so couples may pay homage to the late Hugh Hefner and go as Hugh and one of his bunnies!
Sandy and Danny from Grease is also a classic for couples! All you need are some spray on black wet-look leggings (Olivia Newton John was actually sewn into the famous pants!) a couple of baseball bombers, some red heels, a curling iron and you’re done!
As for me, I will be pulling off my best Rhianna ‘Wild Thoughts’ music video impersonation. So what are you coming as this Halloween?
