The Condé Nast College was honoured to welcome the inspirational Anna Wintour as our keynote speaker to commence the new academic year.
Anna Wintour Addresses the Condé Nast College Students
Joining students from both the Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design in London, and Condé Nast College Spain, live from her home in New York via Zoom, Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue, artistic director and global content advisor for Condé Nast talked poignantly about the importance for the students to have hope, imagination and unity for their future going into the fashion industry.
The intimate and personal address focused heavily on the importance of fighting climate change as she stressed the need for the students to be part of the positive changes to come to the Fashion Industry. During her speech, Anna also urged our students to have the optimism and courage to go out and consider new roles and experiences. Change brings opportunity and Anna said it is exciting that there are so many possibilities for a new generation of “COVID and Climate Change entrepreneurs”.
“Fashion is Without Borders”
Our students were given the opportunity to send in their questions for Anna ahead of her talk, with many wanting to discuss the sustainability issues facing fashion with a key emphasis on the fashion calendar and the viability of “seasons” in today’s industry. Anna answered all their insightful questions with enthusiasm and energy, informing the students about the number of designers changing their practices, working with dead stock and the importance of “living local” and supporting local communities.
Anna Wintour’s Keynote Speech was all that the students could have hoped for, and her powerful words were ones that will stay with them for a lifetime.
